AREZZO AND CORTONA FIDE20

ArezzoArezzo is one of the wealthiest cities in Tuscany and produces gold jewellery and clothing for shops all over the world. It is also the charming town seen in the award-winning movie "Life is Beautiful" with Roberto Benigni.
In Arezzo you can visit Piero della Francesca's frescoes in the 14th century San Francesco Basilica, the Duomo with it's stained-glass windows, a masterpiece of the French immigrant Guillaume de Marcillat, Pieve di S. Maria - a 12th Romanesque church with a lovely facade, Vasaris House bought in 1540 and decorated with paintings of Il Poppi, Alessandro Allori, Santi di Tito and, of course, Giorgio himself, and the Santa Maria delle Grazie.

ArezzoIn Piazza Grande, Arezzo's main square, is arcaded on one side by a loggia designed by Giorgio Vasari. Every first Sunday of the month (and the Saturday before) there is an antique fair, the most important in Italy. If you're looking for something very old at good price don't miss it. Don't worry we'll help you ship it home. After this we'll proceed to Cortona, and on the way we can stop at Planet Gold, where, not only can you see a real goldsmith at work using the antique methods of the Tuscan craft, but it's also possible to have a personalized piece of jewellery made as you watch! The best part is that here you can get high quality jewellery with discounts up to 50%!

ArezzoCortona is one of the oldest cities in Tuscany and was founded by the Etruscans whose work can still be seen in the foundations of the town's massive stone walls. Built on a spur of the Monte Sant'Egidio, Cortona is surrounded by powerful walls, smoothed down by centuries and winds, along which the ancient gates open in correspondence to the roads coming up from the valley. The visitor looking around from the top walls can admire one of the widest and harmonious views in Italy: the rich and immense Val di Chiana, limited on the horizon by the Siena Mountains, fore most the Amiata and the Cetona; and closer up the wide expanse of the Trasimeno Lake. ArezzoThe city was a major seat of power during the medieval period, able to hold its own against larger towns like Siena and Arezzo; its decline was followed the defeat by Naples in 1409 after which it was sold to Florence and lost its autonomy. Cortona's narrow streets and alleyways give you the impression of how it must have been in these small isolated towns in the medieval period, and you'll realize how much history a little town can contain.

In Cortona you will have the chance to see the Museo dell'Accademia Etrusca, Town Hall, the Palazzo Laparelli, the Medicea Fortress, the Cathedral, the Diocesan Museum, the Basilica of S. Margherita, and S. Francesco and San Domenico churches.
