 Tivoli, known in the past as Tibur, was a strategic point on an ancient route from the east to Rome; today it is largely associated with two famous villas, Villa Adriana (Hadrian's Villa) and Villa D'Este. At the foot of the Tiburtini hills, which dominate the vast quarries of travertine marble and host the springs that bring the sulfurous waters to the spa town of Bagni di Tivoli , you can stop to visit the Villa Adriana.
